KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station has seen a consistent and incremental rise in both traffic and passenger movement in the past 11 years.

As part of its 11th anniversary celebrations, the station's management company, Semasa Sentral Sdn Bhd, organised its 2011 Station Manager and Staff Excellence Awards Day' yesterday.

Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Razeek Hussain said KL Sentral was moving forward with its ongoing development projects aimed at providing the public comfort and convenience.

"With the goal of providing comfortable and convenient movement between buildings in KL Sentral, several linking bridges are currently under construction linking KL Sentral, to Sooka Sentral, KL Sentral Park and Nu Sentral Retail Mall," he said.

As with most development projects, Mohamed Razeek said there were inconveniences and he asked the public to be patient till the projects are completed giving the public joy from unprecedented walking experience within KL Sentral.

Mohamed Razeek said most projects were scheduled to be completed by end of the year but the link bridges are expected to be in place by July.

He said despite the on going development projects, the station's passenger traffic increased drastically from 15,000 per day in 2001, to 50,000 per day by 2005 and today, the station is seeing a total of 150,000 passengers passing the station every day.

Present at the event was KTM Berhad president, Dr Aminuddin Adnan, Express Link Sdn Bhd CEO Noormah Mohd Noor, and Semasa Sentral Sdn Bhd CEO Hussin Mohd Ali.

Customer service department front desk staff Mohamad Zaki Yusof was the grand winner of the 2011 Excellence Award. He received an Umrah package worth RM6,000, a watch and a certificate.
